Your First Appointment at Maria Droste Counseling Center

Feeling a bit nervous about your first appointment? That’s completely normal! We’re here to make the process as comfortable as possible.

When you arrive, you’ll start by completing some paperwork if you haven’t already done so beforehand. You’ll meet privately with a clinician for about 60-90 minutes. During this time, the clinician will take the opportunity to learn more about you, explore the reasons you’re seeking support, and begin identifying your needs.

This first session also allows us to start thinking about your treatment goals and the outcomes you hope to achieve. To help prepare for this conversation, it might be helpful to reflect on the following questions:

  • How long has this issue been affecting you?
  • Are there specific things that make it better or worse?
  • What steps have you taken in the past to address the issue?
  • What changes would you like to see as a result of seeking treatment?
  • Who are the people or resources supporting you on your healing journey?

Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel empowered to share and take the first steps toward healing. We look forward to supporting you!
