Approach to Helping

I believe that given the safety, environment, and tools, we all have an innate capacity to heal and live full lives. Our brains and bodies are designed for this purpose, and my goal as a therapist is to empower clients through relational and body-based treatments to rebuild the relationship with themselves and others.

So often the mental health challenges we face are labeled as “personal” ones, which only further isolates and discourages us from seeking the supports and healing we really need. Instead, I see our individual challenges in the context of the worlds we have existed in, and I explore with clients the ways that we all develop adaptations that make sense for those environments. When we honor the wisdom of these adaptations - though they may no longer be serving us - we can begin to explore and embody new, more adaptive ways of being in the world that help us to meet the challenges and opportunities of the present moment.

To me, the therapeutic relationship is a core place to begin re-establishing connections with self and others. I see therapy as a collaborative process and I partner with clients to identify treatment goals and modalities that will assist us in reaching those goals. I utilize trauma-informed modalities in healing with a particular focus on the mind-body-spirit connection, using Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I pair these modalities with solution-focused, narrative, internal family systems, and relational interventions, as well as behavioral techniques. I specialize in treating trauma-related disorders, particularly gender-based and sexual violence, interpersonal violence, and childhood abuse.
